Blackboard usernames are changing

Thursday, August 4. 2011
In a continued effort to reduce the number usernames needed to access our campus systems, Blackboard will begin using the myGate username for all users on August 10. This is an exciting step that puts us closer to a "consolidated" set of credentials. Here is what you need to know:

If you already have a username that matches your myGate account, no changes will be made to your username.

Users with an old format account (john.doe) will log in to Blackboard using their myGate username (jdoe17) beginning at 8am on Wednesday, August 10th.

Passwords will NOT be changed

Don't have a myGate username? Users with "s_" or "g_" in their usernames will not experience changes at this time and may continue to use those usernames. If you have problems accessing Blackboard, contact the CTLT Helpdesk at (270) 809-2346 or at msu.blackboard@murraystate.edu

Changes coming to Blackboard

Friday, April 29. 2011
In preparation for the consolidation of credentials across campus (this means getting all systems to use the same username) some changes are being made to personal information in Blackboard. Here is what you need to know:

Next Monday, May 2nd, system administrators will set personal information fields in Blackboard to match information in myGate. This means your first name, last name and email address fields will be set to match what is in myGate. Personal information will no longer be editable in Blackboard. This necessary step will facilitate future changes.

Benefits for Students
With this system change, we will be better positioned to make Blackboard usernames match myGate usernames. We know it is very confusing for students who have old and new format usernames and we hope to fix that soon. This will eliminate errors seen by some students when trying to change their Blackboard password in myGate. Students will also have access to Blackboard courses more quickly after scheduling than in the past. While not real-time yet, we hope to be able to update the system several times a day during the beginning of the semester.

Benefits for Faculty
Faculty using Blackboard will enjoy several benefits from this change. Sorting issues within the Grade Center will be eliminated. Faculty members can be sure when they send email that it is going to a current email address for the student. Names listed on Rosters in Blackboard will match student names on myGate class lists. Students will gain access to courses more quickly after they schedule.

What should you do to prepare?
Make sure you are checking your RacerMail email account. All future email sent from Blackboard by your instructors or classmates will come to your @murraystate.edu account. If you don't currently use your RacerMail account, here are some instructions on getting started. Want to forward your RacerMail email? Click here for instructions.
