Through September 6, students can charge textbooks and other eligible classroom supplies to their student accounts and pay later or make payments. Eligible items include required textbooks, study guides and syllabus items, classroom supplies such as notebooks, pens, art supplies and nursing uniforms, backpacks, calculators, Murray State day planners, jump drives, rewriteable CDs and prepackage orders. Help teens in foster care find HOPE

Murray State University’s Training Resource Center and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services need your help to provide HOPE for foster teens in Kentucky. HOPE is: Helping to Organize, Provide for and Empower youth. The goal of the program is simple: to help teens in out-of-home care (foster care) transition successfully into adulthood. You could be a mentor to a teen who lives in your community! We are looking for mentors that are at least 21 years old and can make a one year commitment. Please join us for an orientation session from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., September 14, at the MSU Paducah Campus, 3000 Irvan Cobb Dr., Paducah, Ky.

The Calloway County Humane Society's 16th Annual Bark in the Park is Saturday, July 2, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Murray Central Park. Bring your dog for all the concessions, paw painting, obedience demonstrations, microchipping, and contests galore such as dog/human look-alike, best bark, photo contest and more.

Rules:

1. Be aware of the heat. Dos, especially younger puppies and senior dogs, get overheated easily.
2. Dogs must remain on leash, up-to-date on shots, and accompanied by owner at all times.
3. No females in season or aggressive/nervous dogs.
4. No cats!
5. No pets for sale at the event.

Summer Solutions offers free leadership series

Murray State University’s Hopkinsville campus is offering families and service providers with a free series highlighting behavior management strategies for young children with developmental disabilities called "Summer Solutions Leadership Series." On Wednesday, June 15 from 10-11:30 a.m., keynote speaker Dr. Laura Liljequist will lead the series which will have a special emphasis on management of children with down syndrome. Dr. Liljequist is a professor of Psychology at MSU, whose focus is on family dynamics and parenting.

The series is hosted by MSU's Hopkinsville campus, located at 5305 Ft. Campbell Blvd. Interested individuals are asked to RSVP to Dr. Kelly Kleinhans or Stacey Lewis at 270-809-2446. This free series is provided through funding by the MSU Speech and Hearing Clinic and Office of Regional Stewardship and Outreach.

College of Education hosts "Waiting for Superman” and panel discussion

The Murray State University College of Education will host a “Waiting for Superman” documentary viewing and panel discussion on Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 9:00am - 12:00pm in the Curris Center’s 3rd floor theater. At the conclusion of the documentary, a panel consisting of K-12 and higher education faculty will discuss the movie and how it relates to the local education.

MSU to host Summer Residency Readings

All readings will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Clara Eagle Gallery located on the 6th floor of the MSU Price-Doyle Fine Arts Building. The readings are free and open to the public.

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program lay leader training

Robotics summer camps offered by College of Education

Taichi for employees

Tai Chi for MSU Faculty/Staff will continue through the summer on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 am -12:15 pm in the Dance Studio of the Carr Health Building. Beginners are welcome. The art of Taichichuan (Taichi) is practiced daily by millions of people around the world. Practitioners of this art experience both health improvement and stress relief. Department of Military Science Spring 2011 Army ROTC Commissioning Ceremony

The Department of Military Science Army ROTC program, a part of Continuing Education and Academic Outreach, announces its Spring 2011 Commissioning Ceremony. Four cadets are scheduled to be commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the United States Army today, May 13, 2011. The ceremony will be held in the Freed Curd Auditorium (Room 231) which is located in the Collins Center for Industry and Technology at 11:00 a.m. The guest speaker will be COL Jerry Penner, who received his commission through the MSU program in 1982. He recently accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Murray-Calloway County Hospital. The University community is invited to the ceremony as well as the reception that will follow. The reception will be held in the lobby outside the offices of the Department of Military Science on the second floor of the Blackburn Science Building.

Murray State in a “Race to Give” for flood victims in the region

The University communications office at Murray State University is sponsoring a “Race To Give” initiative to aid flood victims in the region. The Paducah Power System, in conjunction with WKYQ, is sponsoring a “Stuff a Truck” project. The American Red Cross will distribute the collected and much-needed cleaning supplies for flood victims throughout the area.

Traffic safety checkpoints

Murray State University Public Safety Department will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints on campus from May 2 through May 13. Officers will be checking for impaired drivers, children that are not properly restrained in child safety seats, and to inform the public about the use of seatbelts. The checkpoints will be conducted at approved locations on campus.

The University Store is buying back your used textbooks every day! During finals week we're buying books May 9-12 from 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and May 13 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. in the store. We'll also be at Winslow on May 10-11 from 12-7 p.m. and May 12 from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. to buy your books. Don't forget to return any textbook rentals to the store by 4:30 p.m. on May 13. Late or nonreturned textbook rentals will be charged in full to your student account.
