September 15, 2010 - Provost of Jefferson Community College shares the 5 books every woman must read

Please join us in welcoming MSU's new faculty, staff, and graduate students while also perusing the Women's Center. Learn about the Center's purpose, goals, programming, and resources as well as how you can get involved during the Open House in Ordway Hall between 4 and 6 p.m. on September 15. Don't miss Dr. Diane Calhoun-French, Provost and V.P. of Academic Affairs at Jefferson Community College and speaker with the Kentucky Humanities Council, as she presents, 'Five Books Every Woman Must Read.' This presentation will begin at 4:45 and is intended to 'kick off' a series of discussions about the books various faculty, staff, and students at MSU think are the 'books every woman/man must read.' Because refreshments will be served, we ask that anyone planning to attend, call 809-3140 to letr us know. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, September 15.

Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John D. Minton, Jr. will be speaking tonight in the Freed Curd Auditorium of the Industry and Technology Bldg @ 7pm. His speech is titled 'Rule Of Law Alive And Well In Today's Society.' The speech is open to the public and all MSU faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend.

Constitution Day 2010 is a 2 day event this year. Join us on Friday, September 17, 9am-2pm in the Mississippi and Barkley Rooms of the Curris Center to hear from local attorneys as well as MSU faculty and staff about important legal issues, rights, and other aspects of our Constitution that you need to know about. Also, on Monday, September 20 @ 7pm Chief Justice John D. Minton, Jr. from the Kentucky State Supreme Court will be speaking in the Freed Curd Auditorium of the Industry & Technology Building. All events are open to the public and MSU students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend.

The 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men who are victims of some form of sexual abuse are. Every 2 minutes, someone in the United States is sexually assaulted.

Come hear actors share the stories of thsoe who have been affected by rape, sexual assault, stalking, and childhood sexual abuse. Hear how these events affect a mother, a father, a friend, the victim, survivor, and perpetrator. Learn about how these events affect EVERYONE involved, not simply the victim.

Murray Environmental Student Society (MESS) meets every Thursday at 5:30 outside on the front lawn of Carr Health, or in Rm 103 if the weather is bad. New members are welcome year round! Come on out if you enjoy learning about critical environmental issues on and off campus, participating in the outdoors, engaging in meaningful service and interacting with the community, or just like to have a good time!

September 16, 2010 - Azeezah Belly Dance Class - every Thursday

For those interested in a fun and social yet elegant form of art, belly dance classes will begin Thurs Sept. 16, 6:30-8 in the Old Fine Arts 2nd floor dance studio and repeat on a weekly basis. No experience is required and it is not mandatory to attend every class! Classes are taught by Ligaya (Margie Hyde) of the Paducah Zerdali Belly Dancers, who has over 30 years of experience. Cost is $5 per class. Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind working out in, and be prepared to work up a sweat!
