Do you remember how difficult middle school was for you? Would you like to be a mentor for a middle school girl going through the same thing? Are you looking to get involved on campus as well as the community?

G.R.O.W - Growing into Respected Outstanding Women - is a mentoring program which pairs young adult undergraduate and graduate women who possess outstanding leadership qualities with girls who could benefit from interactions with a positive female role model.

We are excited as this program enters its 10^th year, working with girls from Calloway Middle and Murray Middle School.

Interested or wanting to learn more? Please attend one of two informational meetings in the Curris Center Theater:

"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" panel discusses repeal and effects

The "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) approach towards gays serving opening in the U.S. military is something that people from various walks of life supported when signed into law. Since then, it has come under heavy scrutiny – even by some of the original supporters. Today, repeal of the DADT legislation has cleared the U.S. House of Representatives and is awaiting action by the U.S. Senate. President Barrack Obama publicly supports repeal. Gen. Colin Powell, who was the nation's top military officer when the DADT legislation became law, has changed his position on the issue and now supports repeal saying, "In the almost 17 years since the 'don't ask, don't tell' legislation was passed, attitudes and circumstances have changed." Rep. Ike Skelton, chairman of the House Armed Service Committee and widely respected leader regarding the U.S. military, on the other hand supports leaving the legislation in place.

At 7:00 p.m. on September 16 at Richmond College, a panel and audience will discuss the repeal of DADT and the effects of that. It will take place in Richmond College's south common room. This event is free and open to the entire University community.

Panelists include: Dr. Ross Meloan, Career Services, Dr. Peggy Munke, Department of Social Work, Criminal Justice, and Gerontology, Joe Tarry, graduate student, and Jacob McAbee, undergraduate student. Jody Cofer, co-chair for the MSU President's Commission on Diversity and Inclusion, will serve as moderator.
